FAD has a very active volunteer tutoring program. Most of our Learning Leaders work one-on-one with students in FAD's tutoring room (215) at the High School. We offer tutoring in Math, Chemistry, Biology, English, French, Spanish, and social studies. New this Sept 2011 we are adding reading and study skills, financial literacy and profiles in entrepreneurship, where students can meet professionals in various fields. We also work to improve the language skills of students for whom English is a second language. Some of our Learning Leaders work with students by assisting teachers in classrooms particularly if they have expertise in commercial art fields such as advertising, architecture, fashion design, and interior design. Some of our tutors become mentors to their students and assist them in their college applications. FAD also assists students in obtaining appropriate internships in the arts.
If you are a student seeking to improve your academic skills or if you are interested in
becoming a Learning Leader, contact Jonathan Tyrrell, FAD Learning Center
Administrator.
Students can pick up a paper application for the Learning Leaders program in room 215, at the FAD Bulletin
Board in the main lobby opposite the Security Desk.
FAD provides the required chaperones on field trips to museums, architectural firms, and other places of interest.
If you would like to volunteer to chaperone future events, please contact Alexandra Matusinka, (212-327-0575)
Trips to museums introduce students to art on display. Many HSAD students have never visited a museum before.
Field trips to architectural firms let students see what architects really do, what their offices look like, what
computer programs they use, how they make models, what research is done during the design phase, and more. This helps
them decide whether or not architecture is what they want to pursue.
